Held the press conference convened by the CGT-UAB to explain the attack on freedom of association by the UAB rectory.

At the press conference, details of the criminal charges against professor Ermengol Gassiot were given, trade union delegate and general secretary of the CGT in a procedure where the UAB has acted as private prosecution.

150 people, mostly teachers and students, express their rejection of criminal charges.

Today at 11:30 the press conference called by the union section of the CGT at the UAB took place to explain the situation resulting from the criminal complaint against the professor of prehistory Ermengol Gassiot, trade union delegate and secretary general of the CGT of Catalonia. He participated in the press conference, aside from Ermengol:
- Sonia Sanchez, Professor of Psychology delegated by the CGT-UAB
- Jordi Estevez, director of the prehistory department
- Mireia Bazaga, lawyer and legal secretary of the CGT of Catalonia
- Tomas Ibanez, former vice-rector of the UAB, retired university professor and member of the CGT.

Sonia Sanchez, which has presented the press conference, has presented the case (see attached document). Among other points, he highlighted that the complaint presupposes that the trade union activity of the CGT is punishable, as stated in the summary, is inserted into a framework with other organizations of "revolutionary ideology" whose purpose is to destabilize the institution. It is within the framework of this political activity that Ermengol Gassiot identifies with one of the people who instigate it. He also explained that the complaint is based on a series of events that happened between May 2012 and May of 2013, with a start in a candidacy for rector of the UAB and an end in an occupation of the rector's office. Currently in the summary there is 27 people. Learn more about the summary here.

Jordi Estevez, as Director of the Department of Prehistory, has shown full support for Ermengol Gassiot and has denounced the university's judicial actions. He has also rejected that it is the punitive ways that should resolve the debates and conflicts surrounding the university models.

Ermengol Gassiot wanted to point out that the complaint, which affects many people involved in university movements, also pursues the CGT for the resolution of this union in defense of the labor rights of university workers, against cuts and commercialization and in denouncing practices of dubious legality in some estates. He explained that it is no coincidence that in the summary consulted the repeated mention of CGT and other organizations (CAF, SEPC i CUP) come directly from the main university authorities.

Tomás Ibáñez has shown his deepest concern for the authoritarian drift of current university administrations and, in concrete terms, from UAB. He indicated that the current complaint, which pursues practices of trade union and social struggle, reproduces typical schemes of fascism. In this sense, he has noted that the current situation constitutes a very worrying precedent for a decline in public liberties.
